Ray Reardon: Six-time world snooker champion dies aged 91

Welshman Mark Williams, a three-time world champion, advised the World Snooker Tour: “Ray is among the finest sportspeople ever from Wales, and the perfect snooker participant.

“He is one of many the explanation why lots of us began taking part in. He put snooker on the map, alongside Alex Higgins, Jimmy White and Steve Davis.

“Anybody taking part in now owes them rather a lot as a result of they introduced recognition to the sport. He’s an actual inspiration.”

Six-time World Championship finalist Jimmy White stated he was “gutted” on the demise of his “shut buddy”.

He described Reardon as a “class act” and “a large of the sport”, including: “Relaxation in peace mate.”

4-time world champion Mark Selby stated Reardon was “a legend”, whereas commentator and former participant John Virgo stated it was “an honour to have identified… a real nice of our sport”.

Dennis Taylor, the 1985 world champion, stated he “had the pleasure of travelling around the globe with a real gentleman”.

Stuart Bingham, world champion in 2015, stated it was “one of many proudest moments receiving the Welsh Open trophy from the legend himself” in 2017.
