The story of Van Abel’s began in 1848 when Martin Van Abel arrived in what is now the hamlet of Hollandtown. The legacy continued through the generations, with Bill’s sons, Wilfred and Don, expanding the establishment after returning from World War II. They constructed the Front Bar, Dining Room, and Bowling Alley, which are still in use today. The Main Hall was added shortly after, and with the help of their spouses, Bernice and Duff, they developed recipes and traditions that have stood the test of time. Notably, the now-famous Broasted Chicken was introduced in the summer of 1965, becoming a family favorite.
