Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) quick bowler Harshit Rana has been hit with a double whammy for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct throughout their match towards Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday, April twenty ninth.
IPL Governing Council punishes Harshit Rana
The 22-year-old quick bowler has been suspended for one match and fined 100% of his match charges following a seemingly innocuous celebration after dismissing Delhi batsman Abishek Porel. Rana’s act, described as a “half-hearted flying kiss” and an “offended send-off,” was deemed a violation by the IPL governing committee.
Rana admitted to the Stage 1 offence below Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct, which pertains to “utilizing gestures of a provocative, insulting, or obscene nature that are directed at a Participant, Participant Substitute, Umpire, another Participant within the Match or a spectator throughout an Indian Premier League Match.”
An official assertion from the IPL confirmed the penalty: “Mr Harshit Rana, Bowler, Kolkata Knight Riders has been fined 100 per cent of his match charges and suspended for one match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct throughout Match 47 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 towards Delhi Capitals on the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 29, 2024.”

Second act of violation for Harshit Rana
This isn’t Rana’s first brush with the Code of Conduct this season. He was beforehand fined 60% of his match charges for the same send-off gesture through the match towards Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in March.
The suspension means Rana will miss the essential upcoming match towards Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday, Could third. This can be a important blow for the Knight Riders, as Rana has emerged as an important cog of their bowling assault this season.
